About Lumen

Lumen is a price-transparency service for UK private dentistry. We publish real price ranges so that patients can judge whether a quote they have received is within a normal range — before, not after, they commit to treatment.

The problem we are addressing

Private dental prices in the UK are not standardised and are rarely published clearly. A patient shopping for Invisalign, veneers, or implants often has no way to know whether a quoted price is typical, high, or unusually low. That information asymmetry favours providers and can lead patients to overpay or, in some cases, to choose a clinic on price alone without understanding what a low quote means for the care they will receive.

What Lumen does

Lumen collects publicly available price data from UK dental clinics and displays it as a low–median–high range for each treatment and area. The goal is to give patients a factual reference point so they can go into consultations informed.

Lumen is an information service only. We do not provide clinical advice, recommend specific clinics, or arrange treatment. Prices shown are for guidance — they are typical ranges sourced from published clinic information and may not reflect the exact cost you will be quoted.

Who Lumen is for

Lumen is for anyone considering private dental treatment in the UK who wants an independent view of what treatments typically cost in their area before seeking a formal quote from a dentist.

How clinics and prices are sourced

Clinic listings are compiled from publicly available data sources including OpenStreetMap (clinic location data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Price ranges are derived from publicly available clinic pricing information and published sources. Data is reviewed and updated periodically. Published prices are not verified independently for every clinic and may not be current — always confirm directly with the clinic before booking.

How we make money

Lumen is free for patients. We are paid by dental clinics: when a patient submits a quote enquiry and is matched with a clinic, we charge that clinic a per-introduction fee. This fee is paid entirely by the clinic — it does not affect the price you are quoted for treatment and costs you nothing.

How listings and matching work. Clinics in Lumen's public directory are drawn from publicly available data sources and appear whether or not they have a paid account with us. When you submit an enquiry through our quote form, only clinics that have registered with Lumen and hold sufficient credit can receive your contact details. Within that eligible pool, clinics whose details we have been able to verify are given priority. A clinic that has not registered or does not hold a credit balance will not receive your enquiry even if it appears in the directory.

We do not rank clinics on clinical quality, patient outcomes, or any independent assessment of care. Registration status and credit balance determine which clinics can receive enquiries; verification status affects priority within that group. You should research any clinic independently and seek advice from a qualified dental professional before committing to treatment.
